Mona Kim MSW RSW

Clinical Social Worker/Psychotherapist

My name is Mona Kim. I am a registered Clinical Social Worker who provides trauma informed therapeutic support to adolescents and adults. I work together with individuals to encourage flow towards growth, change, and feeling better often by helping individuals to heal from difficult past or current experiences. I use a variety of therapeutic modalities including the use of EMDR which is a well researched effective therapeutic tool used to address the impacts of trauma.

In addition to my private practice I have been providing crisis intervention and trauma-focused therapy as a member of the Waterloo Region Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Treatment Centre since 2010. In the past I have also worked supporting youth who suffered from serious mental health concerns, provided support to international students and scholars with cultural transitions, and experience supporting families with children hospitalized with life threatening illnesses and conditions.

I am a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). My other professional memberships include the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW), EMDR Canada, and EMDRIA (International Association)

I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Child and Youth Care from the University of Victoria and then went on to complete my Masters of Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University. Further training has included Certification as a Clinical Traumatologist ( Traumatology Institute - Toronto, Ontario) and training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Level One EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), as well as training in TF-CBT (Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). Although I have specific education in various models of therapy I work from a client-centered multi-model approach with a focus on mindfulness.
